About Emulcee

Emulcee is a sustainable barrier coating platform developed for paper, paperboard and natural tableware applications where packaging needs to deliver strong functional performance while supporting a cleaner end-of-life. Designed as an alternative to PE coating, wax coating and PFAS-based grease barriers, Emulcee helps packaging manufacturers create plastic-free, PFAS-free, compostable and food-contact suitable packaging for modern food-service and consumer-packaging applications.

The Emulcee range combines two advanced coating technologies: Emulcee A, based on water-based acrylic formulations, and Emulcee P, based on bio-based polymer systems available in both water and solvent media. These coatings provide functional resistance against oil, grease, water, moisture, oxygen and water vapour, while also offering heat sealability and anti-blocking performance for industrial converting and packaging operations.

Emulcee is suitable for a wide range of substrates including paper, kraft paper, paperboard, cupstock board, duplex board, moulded fibre and areca palm leaf tableware. It is designed for applications where packaging must remain strong, clean, grease-resistant and reliable during contact with food, liquids, oils or moisture.

Conventional food packaging often depends on PE lamination, wax coating or fluorochemical-based grease barriers to achieve water and oil resistance. While these materials can provide performance, they may create challenges in compostability, repulpability and sustainable packaging design.

Emulcee offers a more responsible solution. By forming a thin, functional barrier layer on the substrate surface, it helps reduce the need for traditional plastic coatings while maintaining the performance required for food packaging.

The coating protects the substrate from oil penetration, water absorption, moisture exposure and staining, helping the package remain clean and structurally stable during use.

For converters and brand owners, Emulcee supports the transition toward PFAS-free, plastic-free and bio-based packaging formats without compromising practical packaging performance.

How Emulcee Works

When applied to paper, paperboard or natural tableware, Emulcee forms a continuous barrier film on the surface. This barrier layer helps control the movement of liquids, oils, grease, oxygen and water vapour through the substrate.

Versatile Barrier Coatings for Food-Service Packaging

For food-service packaging, this means improved resistance against oily foods, sauces, bakery products, fried snacks, sweets, salads, dry foods and takeaway meals. For paper cups, bowls and trays, Emulcee helps provide water resistance and heat sealability.

For wraps, paper plates and natural tableware, non-heat-sealable grades are also available where barrier protection is required without sealing functionality.
